From Bari: Alberobello and UNESCO Matera with a certified guide in Matera

4.6 (713 verified reviews)

About This Experience

This full-day coach trip from Bari covers two UNESCO sites: Alberobello, explored on your own, and Matera, with a certified local guide. It runs about 10 hours from the Apulia Smart Tour bus checkpoint (Ex capolinea 1, 4) in Bari and cost $58 per person, guided option, when checked in October 2026. Check-in closes at 8:25 AM and the bus does not wait for latecomers.

After about an hour on the coach you get roughly three hours in Alberobello among the trulli, with a booklet, digital maps and audio guides for a self-guided walk. The coach then takes about 75 minutes to Matera, where a guide leads a walk of about two hours through the Sassi with photo stops, followed by about 1.5 hours of free time. The ride back to Bari takes about an hour.

The guide speaks English, Italian or Spanish, and groups are often mixed-language. The trip suits travelers based in Bari who want both towns in one day without driving. Entrance fees, food and drinks are extra, and there is no set lunch stop, so pack snacks. You walk on steep steps and uneven stone in the Sassi, so wear shoes with grip.

The rating is 4.6 from 713 GetYourGuide reviews. Low-star reviewers mention late departures that cut the free time, large groups with the guide switching between two languages, a hurried pace in Matera and little chance to eat. Bring your own headphones for the audio guides. Keep the bus departure time in Matera in mind, and note that free cancellation runs until 24 hours before the start.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.6/5 by 713 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

If wasn’t for the guide, we would be lost walking around and missing the important bit. It was a good pace and timing for both places.

— , 2026-10

The driver was very good, friendly, and professional. The tour operators and tour escorts were also excellent. The only problem was the local guide, who walked—and sometimes practically ran—far too quickly and paid no attention to the group members. Just 10 minutes after the tour started in Matera, we got lost. I was not the only one; I also met other members of the group who had lost their way during the tour.

It was really enjoyable. Lots of time on both places and very interesting.
